No fewer than 8 students of Madonna University on 18th February, 2023, have been reportedly burnt to death in a fire accident, while others were severely injured in a road accident that occurred in Abakaliki, Ebonyi State.
It was reported that the students were going home after the school management had given them the compulsory election holiday, when their motor caught fire, on their journey to Port Harcourt.
The report made available stated that 8 of the students died instantaneously. Ten other students were rescued and had been taken to the Alex Ekwueme Teaching Hospital in Ebonyi State to receive maximum medical attention.
As at the moment of reporting the news story, the cause of the motor fire incident is still a mystery. But there have been a series of investigations in order to unravel the sudden outrage of the fire outbreak.
The management of the institution is yet to react to the tragedy. But a lot of people have expressed their sympathy for the deceased families, saying it is a great tragedy for the country as a whole.
