ESP32- WROOM- 32U
Share :
The ESP32-WROOM-32U is a powerful, general-purpose Wi-Fi + Bluetooth/Bluetooth LE module built around the Espressif ESP32-D0WD-V3 chip. It is functionally identical to the standard ESP32-WROOM-32D module, featuring a dual-core 32-bit CPU, 4 MB of SPI flash, and comprehensive peripheral support (UART, SPI, I2C, PWM, ADC, DAC, etc.).
The critical difference of the WROOM-32U is the inclusion of a tiny U. FL connector (sometimes called IPEX connector) instead of the standard on-board PCB antenna used by most other ESP32 modules.
External Antenna Flexibility: The U. FL connector allows developers to attach an external antenna via a coaxial cable. This is vital for applications requiring non-standard antenna placement.
Increased Range and Performance: By choosing a specialized external antenna (such as a directional patch or a high-gain omnidirectional antenna), users can often achieve significantly better wireless range and reliability compared to the small, internal PCB antenna.
Metal Enclosure Compatibility: When the ESP32 is enclosed in a metal or shielded case, the internal PCB antenna becomes ineffective. The WROOM-32U solves this by allowing the antenna to be mounted externally, ensuring robust radio frequency (RF) performance even in challenging industrial or commercial housing environments.
