UI Student Wins 1 Million Naira In The NCDMB Essay Competition

Ayotomiwa Elesho, a 200 level Political Science student of the University Of Ibadan (UI) won a sum of 1 million naira in the sixth edition of the annual essay competition organized by the Nigerian Content Development Monitoring Board (NCDMB).

Ayotomiwa was shortlisted among 10 students across the Nigerian universities who took part in the 1500-word essay writing with the topic, “Strategizing For Transformation To Clean Energy In The Changing Energy Landscape: The NCDMB Intervention.” The top ten students all received brand new laptops, while the winner took a sum of 1 million naira home, with the runner up a sum of #700, 000 and the 2nd runner up with a sum of #500, 000.

There was a hiccup about who would emerge victorious among the shortlisted student essay writers who are in 100 level and 200 level of the Nigerian universities. The NCDMB scheduled an interview with each shortlisted winner to affirm the authenticity of their respective writings. However, it became clear at the prize-giving ceremony that Ayotomiwa Elesho is the best essay writer among all student entrants of the competition.

Since the inception of the essay writing competition, thousands of 100 level and 200 level students across universities in Nigeria always participate in it. It has been a money-making competition that helps the students to discuss meticulously the role of the NCDMB in the local participation of the country’s fossil fuels.

It is noted that Ayotomiwa Elesho’s essay will be published among all writings in the annual magazine of the NCDMB named “Local Content Digest.”

The NCDMB is a government establishment established set to monitor  content developments and enhance in-country participation of Nigerian hydrocarbons.
